Who among us hasn’t thought it would be just hilarious to walk into a police station and say, “give me all your money”?
If you said “no one,” you’d be wrong. As Scott Goldstein of the Dallas Morning News first reported, eighteen-year-old Keithan Kennard Manuel did just that in Wilmer (fifteen miles south of Dallas), which landed him in jail on a charge of robbery.
“I had a guy come in, a towel wrapped around his arm, leaning up against the window, and he says, “give me all your money,” dispatcher Patrice Hughey told Channel 11’s Arezow Doost.
Seeming to back down, Manuel asked Hughey whether there were any warrants against him. But then, she said, he claimed to have to a gun.
“Man, I play like that all the time, I didn’t think she would take it seriously,” Manuel told Channel 11’s Jack Fink in the same report.
“This young man wasn’t using his head for sure,” Wilmer police chief Victor Kemp told Doost. “You hear of those ‘World’s Dumbest Criminals’ every once in a while but you never think it’s gonna happen in your city.”
But Channel 11’s full video coverage paints a somewhat less amusing picture, with Manuel seemingly despondent during a portion of his jailhouse interview with Fink. Also, Manuel’s mother told Doost that her son takes medication for depression and schizoprenia:
