Last month Texas Monthly had the pleasure of welcoming two new members to the editorial staff. Both Texas natives, Allegra Hobbs and Owen Schwartzbard have been settling in to their roles as senior news and politics editor and senior video producer, respectively.

Allegra Hobbs, a McKinney native, made her way to New York City after graduating from Pepperdine University. There, she worked at New York magazine, Study Hall, DNAinfo, and Brooklyn Paper. As a freelance writer, she contributed to the New York Times, the Village Voice, and Texas Monthly over the years. Most recently, she was managing editor at the Big Bend Sentinel. Working alongside senior editor Ben Rowen, Allegra will be assigning and editing digital-first stories and a monthly print column about news and politics.

Owen Schwartzbard grew up in Houston, where he discovered an interest in video production against a backdrop of hurricane seasons. After graduating from Chapman University’s film directing program, in California, Owen worked in Hollywood for a while but missed the Texas thunderstorms. So, in 2016, he returned to Texas, where he has been producing and directing commercials and documentaries for brands such as Dell, Autodesk, Texas Oncology, and the Bullock Texas State History Museum. Owen will focus on TM editorial video projects, but his role will also support Texas Country Reporter and TM Studio projects on occasion.
