After winning national acclaim but being forced to close his original location, chef Victor Villarreal has reprised his seafood sensation in a new home on the Near Southside. Operating from the ground floor of the Hotel Revel, the bar and chic cafe bring back much-loved favorites, including the Shark-cuterie Board with house-smoked gravlax, caviar, and various smoked fish items, according to the kitchen’s whims. Cold-water oysters from New England and Canada delighted us, particularly when we added a dab of house mezcal mignonette. Coarsely chopped octopus and shrimp tossed with avocado salsa verde, cucumber, and frilly microgreens made for a lovely salad atop a fluffy, warm pita. Among the tostadas, we fell hardest for the one topped with smoked lobster and trout roe. Don’t miss the happy hour snack specials or the rotating brunch offerings. Do try the Bashful Dragon cocktail, a fizzy magenta treat mixing gin, bubbles, dragon fruit puree, and hibiscus syrup.
